Torn Between Two: Créme Brûlée

Torn Between Two is a first part of 2-book series by Mia Kayla. It’s story about love, Samantha and her two men. Not as much a love triangle but Samantha’s trouble making a decision and choosing between two men. The other is a epitome of rock star, Hawke and the other is law student, Josh. Two so different men coming from totally opposite worlds.

Samantha works as a pastry sous chef and her famous créme brûlée inspired me when I started to outline this blogpost. I have to give credit to Mia Kayla, Torn Between Two has been one the most mouth-watering reading experiences when it comes to the food that is eaten by the characters in a book.

I believe in fairy tales — the kind where a knight in shining armor sweeps me off my feet. Coming from a broken home, fairy tales housed the hope I clung to. Never in my life did I imagine two knights coming into my life— two knights that wore very different armor.

A rockstar versus a lawyer.
Fast and furious versus deliberate and calculated.
Intense and passionate versus strong and devoted.
Chaos versus stability.

I fell in love with one in the craziness of a concert.
I fell in love with the other in the silence of his compassion.

And now I am Torn Between Two.

Life is made up of choices.

Single choices like bricks laid out in a path. A path that leads to your future.

At twenty four years old, I would have never guessed I would be stuck between two men—two men from opposite spectrums of the universe.
Their lives, their worlds, their demeanor is as different as the darkest of nights and the lightest of days.

I love them both, but I have to choose.
There is only one choice I can make.
And I choose forever.

Author Bio

Mia Kayla is a New Adult/Contemporary Romance writer who lives in Illinois. She is the wife to the husband of the year and mommy to three unbelievable cute little girls who have multiplied her grey hairs.

In her free time she loves reading romance novels, jamming to boy bands, catching up on celebrity gossip and designing flowers for weddings.

Most of the time, she can be caught on the train with her nose in a book sporting a cheeky grin because the main characters finally get their happily-ever-after at the end.

She loves reading about happy endings but has more fun writing them.

Torn Between Two (The Torn Duet, #1)Torn Between Two by Mia Kayla
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I chose to read this because I was intrigued by the storyline. Who could resist a love triangle? And three main characters that struggle with trying to overcome their tragic pasts?

And the storyline itself was good, the pace of the book was good and as the text had a nice flow, I enjoyed reading.

There are two main male characters in this book. The epitome of a rock star (and very stereotypical example of the genre), Hawke. And then there’s lawyer-to- be Josh, who melted my heart with his brown eyes and very honest demeanor. His every bit the gentleman and hotness combined in one person that I’d choose any day over Hawke’s rock star antics. Mia Kayla depicts her males well and the Josh’s backstory was very interesting and I was genuinely sorry for the treatment he got from his family. Josh’s character is definitely the best part of this book.

And then there’s Sam, she just is a epitome of contradiction. She tries make wise choices and be sensible young woman but in the next scene she acts like this star struck groupie, that whenever she gets the booty call, she just drops everything else and runs to him (eager to please). How low must one’s self-esteem be to allow others treat her that way? Her juvenile actions didn’t earn my respect.

In the other hand, I loved Chloe, Samantha’s best friend. She’s strong, independent and gets over her star struck phase fast. She is the proof that Mia Kayla can also write strong female characters that can be appreciated.

The book ended in cliffhanger so we’ll have to just wait and see, whether the characters find the strength that will end up in a homerun in the part 2.
